To start the Golden Circle trip, you might have to wait up to 30 minutes for the bus to reach your location. Because we are picking up people from various places across the city, that is time taking. The drop-off location will be at the same spot from where you have departed on the bus in the morning.
- THINGVELLIR NATIONAL PARK
The first stop of our shared bus tour is Thingvellir National Park, that’s also named as Þingvellir. This area holds enormous histological and geological importance, and it’s also known as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Located in the southwest Iceland, Thingvellir National Park holds great importance due to its rich cultural heritage. This place is the origin of Iceland as a nation and the home of the oldest parliament in the world.
Along with magnificent hiking paths, Thingvellir National Park enables its visitors to dive at Silfra Fissure. It’s an outstanding place to snorkel or scuba dive among two tectonic plates in the clearest water in the world.
The next stop of our Golden Circle Bus Tour will be Geysir Geothermal Field in hot springs, located within the Haukadalur valley. The geothermal field consists of a total surface area of almost 3 km².
Most of the hot springs are situated along a 100-meter-wide land strip running in the direction of tectonic plate lines, i.e., south to southwest. It’s soothing to watch the hot springs and witness the steam rising from the ground. At this impressive natural wonder, you can smell the sulphur particles present in the air.
Moreover, you can experience some of the rarest underground volcanic activity. There are numerous hot pools, fumaroles, and clay pots present in the area. Rich minerals color all the surrounding hills and soil, which looks wonderful. You can feel the incredible power of the earth simply by walking along the footpaths.
The next stop on the route of the Golden Circle Shared Bus Tour is the majestic Gullfoss Waterfall. It is one of the most famous waterfalls in Iceland. The Gullfoss means the ‘Golden Falls’ or the ‘Waterfall of Gold.’ It shoots right from the glacial river, named Hvítá. The best thing about this waterfall is that it cascades down two gigantic steps, i.e., 11–22 meters or 36–71 feet, falling into a deep valley.
While walking towards the Gullfoss, you can feel immense power. While standing beneath a waterfall, you can feel the spray of the glacial water right on your face. During your visit to Gullfoss, never forget to witness a rainbow that gives an alluring view.
Our final stop on the Golden Circle Shared Bus Tour is Kerið Volcanic Crater. Basically, it’s formed during an eruption almost 3000 years ago, and presently the crater bottom covered with a picturesque lake. This lake is well-known for its contrasting colours, i.e., black lava rocks, reddish mineral sediment, and blue shades of lake water, all of these colours combine to create a refreshing display. You can enjoy the mesmerizing walk all around the top of the crater to soak in the beautiful sight, or else you can also descend into the water’s edge.
Here at this point, our tour will be over, but still, you can witness some more beautiful sights from the bus while going back to Reykjavik. For people who want to add some more stops to an Iceland Golden Circle, should look no further than the “Golden Circle Blue lagoon Tour” or “Golden Circle and Sky Lagoon Tour” option on our website. We also offer a Small Group Golden Circle Tour option, allowing you to add some extra stops on the way, or else you can opt for other tour packages like Golden Circle Self drive, Golden Circle and Northern Lights Tour, Golden Circle Private Tour or Golden Circle Direct Tour.
